Worlds largest swimming pool is in Chile. More than 1,000 yards long!

Someone just sent this article to me. I wanted to see if anyone in Fodorland had stayed there, but a search came up empty.

It is more than 1,000 yards long, covers 20 acres, had a 115ft deep end and holds 66 million gallons of water. In the picture with the tiny boat, you can see something that looks like the glass triangle at the Louvre. That's where they have a heated pool. Pretty incredible:

The pool is in a private condominium. you can only stay there by renting an apartment.

No, I understand why it's private. Why would you build a huge saltwater pool on the edge of the ocean?

The Pacific Ocean off the coast of Chile is too cold for swimming all year.

I am not able to understand, what is the need of making such huge pool. If they would have made some 100 small pools in different locations in Chile, then their swimming would have definitely got a great boost and would eventually turn into a silver or bronze if not gold medals in Beijing Olympics.
