where to stay in PDC or Cozumel?

We will be staying at the Fairmont Mayakoba in the Riviera Maya for 4 days in Nov. and have two other days to be elsewhere. We were thinking Cozumel or Playa Del Carmen. We are a couple in our mid-thirties that like to dine but also like to have a good time so nothing too hidden away. We'd prefer more of a boutique hotel since the Fairmont is very large and more classic. We welcome any ideas on where to stay.

There are several small hotels right on the beach in the haert of PLaya Del Carmen. PDC is loaded with all kinds of restaurants. It's also a lively town with lots going on.

Do a text search here for PDC hotels, you'll find some suggestions.

I personally can't help, we last stayed in a condo with our 2 teens, but were minutes away from town, and enjoyed exploring it every evening for a new place to eat and during the days to look around and do a little shopping (be sure to bargain!).

Here's some suggestions to get you started: http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...6&tid=34910507

ALso check tripadvisor.

BTW, I accidentally put this response first on another thread, while looking for suggestions to help you.

PDC is great. I love it there. Our next trip will be at La Tortuga or Mosquito Beach. Tortuga gets fantastic reviews, but is not directly on the beach. The tides (old ikel del mar) is close, but very upscale $700+ a night. There are fantastic restaurants in PDC.

Thank You. After doing some research I think PDC wil be perfect. I actually found the Mosquito Beach hotel as well and it looks great...on the water, modern, smaller, and close to everything. But it didn't get the best reviews...many commented that they got there and were put in their sister hotel. Anybody have any experience there?

Check out La Tortuga. It's a block from the beach, but has access and gets amazing reviews. I'm leaning toward Tortuga for our next trip. Mosquito Beach looked great from the outside, but the reviews have me questioning it.
