Hampton Inn is fairly new, so it's clean, and it's the closest Hotel to the airport, but rather boring. If you want to venture out just a little ways, I reccommend the
Orquideas Inn in Alejuela. Only 10-15 minutes from the airport and a great place to stay with FULL breakfast buffet included in the price. They have a web site if your interested:

We also highly recomend Orquideas Inn. Whenever we have guests that require a place near the airport we recomend them, and people are always happy with the choice.
The Hampton Inn is fine, but Orquideas is very special, They say the Marilyn Monroe Bar is a lot of fun. It is there in the hotel.
Enjoy!

I stayed at the Orquideas Inn about two weeks ago. It is located in one of the highest crime areas of San Jose,( the hotel is behind 20 ft high steel fences) and you can't sleep because of the truck traffic which runs 10 feet in from of the hotel. Then to top that off, the rooseters at the farm next door begin crowing at 4:30 Am and don't stop. I stayed there once and NEVER AGAIN!!

Tom, I sorry you had such a bad time at the Orquideas. I'm wondering if it's the same Orquideas that Robbie and I speak of, because Fred and Darlys told me there's an Orquideas Inn in San Jose, but the one we speak of is in Alejuela, not San Jose.
But, the Inn in Alejuela does have a high fence around it and a full time security guard at the gate, but that only makes me feel safe! The rooms in the old building are right next to the street, and there is some traffic noise, but not enough to bother us. The last couple times we've been there, we stayed in the new rooms up on the hill, and had NO traffic noise that I recall. Again, sorry you had a bad time.

Ally,
Yes it is the same Orquideas Inn. I met Fred and Darlys. I have stayed down below and in the new rooms up the hill by the restaurant ( which by the was is not open) and that is where you hear only truck traffic downshifting down the hill, and the roosters from the farm next door. Bring your earplugs if you try and get a quiet nite's sleep here!! As for me I'll be at Martinos or the Hampton next trip.

Tom, another question if you don't mind...
You say the restaurant was not opened? Do you know why? When we there last May, it was opened. We only had one meal there (lunch) but it was very good. Most meals we take 'family style' in the bar area. In any case, I'm wondering when you were there. If it was after May, they must have had something happen with the Management or something else to close it down. I don't want to be telling people it's open, if it's not!
Thanks!
