Where to go in June for some sun and relaxation?
Hi, my husband and I live in San Francisco and finally have 1 week off together starting June 20th. We'd like to go somewhere warm with good beaches- but also someplace with culture that's not too touristy. We've been trying to decide between Panama/Costa Rica and Mexico (either Playa del Carmen or Puerto Vallarta). We're worried about it being too hot and humid or too rainy. Any suggestions for any of these locations or somewhere else where the weather might be better in June? Any help would be much appreciated!

Because the sun is at its zenith in late June, Mexico or Central America would not be my choice for a beach vacation. It's also the start of hurricane season which can totally ruin a vacation. However, you can get some great deals at that time of year.
I would recommend trying somewhere else. Some suggestions:
Tahiti - in the Southern Hemisphere, the sun is not as strong.
Mallorca - a wonderful island in the Mediterranean
The Greek Islands - actually anywhere in the Mediterranean is great in late June and because the prices are lower than Tahiti or Hawaii room and board can even out the higher airfare.
Cumberland Island - a wonderful escape off the coast of Georgia.
Or, just drive south a few hours and have the vacation of a lifetime at the Post Ranch Inn. Yeah, its expensive but there's no place like it on the planet. And there's a great beach a few minutes away. And you save big on the airfare.

Hi Otis,
Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah, I had the same concern about the heat in Mexico and Central America but was having trouble coming up with other close by options. I'm going to look into your suggestions now- hopefully one of them will work out! Thanks again, Neera

Professor-
Isn't it rainy season in Manzanillo in June as well? Since we'll only have 6 full days, we're worried about the rain and humidity. If it's not rainy during that time, it would be perfect because most of the other places that we've looked into that have good weather in June are either too far or too expensive to fly to for 6 days.

You know, if you only have 6 days and really want a nice beach vacation. Cabo might do the trick. The cooler Pacific breezes take the edge off the heat there and there are very nice resorts that you can probably find a deal at.
There's also a brand new Camino Real hotel on the beach in Loreto. It's a very nice place and there are some interesting excursions you can do from there. Shouldn't be too expensive that time of year and the Sea of Cortez is lovely after the water warms up in the spring.

I wouldn't rule out Puerto Vallarta (it will be hot and humid but no hurricanes likely). Also since it's summer, much less tourists. Easy to get to from San Fran. Nice local ambiance if you stay in the Old Town (El Centro) instead of the high-end resorts out to the north in The Marina or Nuevo.

Suze- I can tell you're a big PV fan! We're leaning towards PV now because of the many positive posts. Just wondering if anyone that has actually been there in June/July could give feedback about just how hot and humid it gets?
Thanks, Neera
