Whale Watching in Puerto Vallerta

Has anyone been on any whale watching trips in Puerto Vallerta? I've seen the gray whales in the Baja lagoons and am wondering now about seeing whales in other parts of Mexico.

The Lagunas you went to in Baja are the best Whale Watching in all of Mexico.
PV is inside a large-Bay-Bahia de Banderas-and if you go far enough out to sea-40+ miles-you 'may' see some Whales but don't count on it.
The whole Pacific Coast of Mexico has Whales in but after 17 years of Sportfishing there we've only seen them a few times.
Lots of Dolphins though, thousands and thousands at times.

Hola from PV! Sorry to disagree with the above poster but not exactly correct. The humpback whales are here in the bay from December through March - legally whale watching begins December 15. There are several very reputable whale watching companies in the area. I would highly recommend Wildlife Connection. These are two very dedicated marine biologists who set the standards for whale watching in this area and actually began the whale identification program here. They have photographed and catalogued a little under 500 whales that contiue to return to the bay. Recently featured on Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel. You are welcome to email me directly for further information. Otherwise, please note that there are many, many whales here in the bay and two or three of the most reputable companies will guarantee that you will see them!

We went whale watching in PV February 2001, and saw many whales. Did not see any dolphins that day. We went on a boat called the "Bloodhound" which is a beautiful big sailboat. The owner/captain was Brian who had a real passion for the whales and all sea life, so he made it even more wonderful. Some of the people on our tour did get seasick, but we had no trouble. This was pretty much an all day trip with lunch included. I will do it again when we return, I recommend it. Be careful who you go with, we saw some small boats with irresponsible sailors going VERY close to the whales which is illegal and very dangerous. Our captain told us we always stayed the legal limit away, but also out of respect for the whales and for our safety. Even at legal limit you can see them very well. Have fun!

The post by La Ballena is totally incorrect. There are so many whales IN the bay during the season , it's hard not to see them.
