Weather in Costa Rica this weekend Nov. 6 - 10th?

It's really tough to say. The phenomenon was upgraded to a tropical depression this morning. They don't seem to be talking much about tropical storm and hurricane, but one forecaster here mentioned that it's a possibility. It has been raining a LOT over much of the country. This has been a very dry rainy season, and now, all of a sudden, we're getting all this rain. I was supposed to head to the Caribbean coast tomorrow, and I'm not going. I'll wait. If there is going to be something going on this weekend, I'd rather confront it in San Jose.

It has now been upgraded to Tropical Storm Ida.

It's off the coast of Nicaragua right now and will be off Honduras by Sat., it's moving away from CR not towards it. Which isn't to say weather will be affected. Either way I'm heading there in about 2 hours! Rain or shine

We are leaving on a cruise Nov. 23 from Ft Lauderdale and going all through ports in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua etc. for two weeks, ending in San Jose. They say it rains everyday at noon...just take my rain jackets and endure I guess. I hope the dry rainy season would continue. Any tips?

Wow, I just saw that Nicaragua could get up to 30 inches of rain. Hope everyone stays safe.

redheadednancy, you're going to be in the tropics, and it rains there, a lot. But here's the thing, it's also hot there so if you get rained on you'll just get wet. It actually feels good. Worrying about rain in the tropics is kind of like worrying you might see some ice in Antarctica.

I am in Turrialba with friends, afternoon and night showers have not stopped us from anything. Spent the day at Tapanti N.P. and Orosi Valley after a fun trip to the farmers market. Never got a drop of rain at Tapanti which is one of the rainiest places in the country. Woke up to a clear morning and excellent view of steam pouring out of Turrialba Volcano, heading up to Irazu in the morning. Pura Vida

Redhead - Try to bring lightweight, quick dry items to keep the rain off. It can rain heavy at times but it is often still very muggy and warm. Travel umbrellas or a hat that folds up can be handy. If you get a cotton item soaked, you might have a difficult time getting it dry completely although you will probably have access to laundry where many of us would not. Quick try shoes and sandals work well too, especially the roomy and comfortable styles. You'll probably want something for cool evenings. I couple of lightweight layers works nice so you adjust as you go.

Where will you be stopping in Nicaragua?

Linda, etc. We are stopping in San Juan Del Sur Nicaragua. We are on a 16 day Seabourn cruise through Central America. I won't worry about rain, just trying to be prepared. We have rain jackets with hoods and crocs, ha! Want to do the canopy tours and snorkeling and see everything we can. We are professional tourists!!
