Wanting to Drive from McAllen Texas to Monterrey Mexico
I live in Texas, US citizen, and want to drive to Monterrey Mexico. I know to go only during the day, and that it is about a 2 hour drive, I am concerned about safety. I have seen a lot of posts about doing this, but they are from 2 years ago, I would like to know about recent (as in January 2014) experiences with making this drive.
I guess I will list my questions:
1. Do you need a passport or will ID work?
2. Safety is my biggest concern, I don't want to get my head chopped off.
3. Are there gas stations along the way?
4. Has anyone run into drug dealers, fake police, fake road construction?
5. I don't have to go from Mcallen if there is a safer way to enter that doesnt take too much longer? I acutally live in Waco and could take any direction, however, I35/37 goes straight into Monterrey so it would be a straight path.
Please feel free to post here or email me directly ([email protected]) Any advice MORE THAN WELCOME - Thank you very much!!!
