We'll spend our last night in Managua before an early morning flight at the Barcelo Managua. Their hotel description says its in the Villa Fontana neighborhood and is very safe for walking around, etc. I've not been able to find any info on this area of the city. Do you know this area of the city and have comments on its safety, etc. Thanks for any/all information.

The neighborhood is fine. The problem with Managua is that it's not a city made for walking at all. So the description of "very safe for walking around" may be true in the "safe" sense, but the "walking around" part is difficult. If you go somewhere out to eat that night, take a taxi. Have the hotel arrange one.
Thanks. Just the kind of information I was looking for.
It's in a safe area.
But get a taxi to Galeria Santo Domingo or Zona Rosa for nightlife.
Or further 'up the hill' is a lovely restaurant, Intermezzo del Bosque
