Uvita or Puerto Viejo

Good evening,
I'm in process of planning a 12 night stay in Costa Rica July 27th thru August 6th.
My husband and I have only been to Puerto Viejo and loved the easiness and beauty of the area.
This time we'll have our 10 year old in tow. Starting three nights in Arenal then debating between Uvita or back to Puerto Viejo. Worried about the weather on Caribbean side this time of year and seems like maybe more to do in Uvita for a child? Will have a car so can explore surrounding areas.
Manuel Antonio seems a bit too built up for us.

Uvita is absolutely beautiful! There are some really nice small hotels to stay at that are not too expensive between there and Ojochal, and also some really great beaches that are perfect for swimming or relaxing. There are also some interesting native villages that you can go visit that are not too far, and some local waterfalls to explore (one which has a natural rock "slide" that you can go down into the water!). I definitely recommend it. I haven't been in the rainy season so I can't make any assurances about the weather, but I'm also planning to go this summer and from what I've heard it's only in the late afternoons and evenings. Shouldn't impact your vacation plans too much!
