Have not been tp Gran Velas but friends have been to both and said Gran Velas surpassed any AI resort they have encountered. They said food and service was beyond compare.
However.....Gran Velas is NOT adults only. They have some adults only sections and restaurants, but you will encounter children.
Also...Gran Velas is a HUGE resort.
It all depends on what you want. They are both great resorts.
Secrets is much smaller.

I have had friends stay at both properties and they all raved how great they are. We are leaning towards Secrets Maroma because it is an adults only resort.

If you stay in the adults only section at Grand Velas and go to the restaurants that area dults only there, you will not encounter kids, except in the lobby or walkways btwn the adults only and family areas.

We were at Grand Velas last May. It was incredible, some of the best food we have had anywhere in the world. Cocina de Artur was beyond phenomenal. The spa was incredible. Service top notch, and the entire place is gorgeous. I can't imagine anything better. there is no nightlife at the resort to speak of though, but they will give youa lift into Playa del Carmen 10 min away for that and you taxi back.

Secrets Maroma is one of the favorite and top resorts on the Riviera Maya - it is hard to hear any complaints about it; people really love it.
