We took our three children, ages 20, 18, and14 , to Playa for a week at Christmas. It was a fabulous trip and I highly recommend this destination. We stayed at El Taj, a condo hotel right on the beach a block from 5th avenue. The condo was gorgeous, the beach was beautiful, and the town was so much fun. We felt completely safe there. There were so many delicious restaurants...am very glad we did not do an all inclusive. I used this site to get restaurant recs..loved El Fogon! We sailed, snorkeled, swam w dolphins and golfed twice. Anyway, really just wanted to rec Playa del Carmen...would go back today if I could !

Glad you had a good time!
Playa is a near perfect beach destination - we've been there many times. We are headed for Akumal (1/2 hour south of Playa)
this Saturday.
That will be a remembered family time. Our family of ten including young adults about the age of yours rented house Villa Mimac just out of town. Our activities included zip lining, beaches, bird sanctuary, catamaran trip. excursion to Chichen Itza and strolling around town. Our wedding anniversary in town as well.
Great! I'm heading there in the morning. Can't wait to try El Fogon,
Hope you both (ginger50 and zootsi) have a great trip! It is such a fabulous place!
And ozarksbill..your trip sounds great too! Wonderful place for an anniversary!
Thanks...yes quite an evening at Yaxche Maya with Mayan cuisine ...our 55th with Mariachi band serenading and all! Our three young adults didn't discover the lively Riviera Maya till final evening. On the catamaran cruise granddaughter Carol fell off or rather lost grip on a boom net and was rescued. I tried snorkeling but it wasn't successful!
Bill in Boston
Yeh - this is our 8th time down there - love it! We usually do Playa & Tulum or Playa & Akumal - this year we're just going to kick back at Akumal for a week. Bill, we've been to Yaxche a few times, I understand they relocated to a bigger building. Next time you go, try snorkeling in Yal-Ku lagoon (Akumal) - it's like being in a giant aquarium. When we first went to Playa in 2000 it was a lot smaller - the jungle started around 20th street.
Where did you golf and what condition were the courses? Would you golf them again? We are heading to PV in April and plan on playing golf several times. We are still trying to figure out where. Thanks for your assistance.
