We are going to Brazil for a month in Jan. Flying into S.P. & then leaving the next day for 4 days in Rio, then back to S.P. for several days, then on to Curitiba, Foz do Iguacu & Londrina, then back to S.P. I have been told that internal air travel is dicey right now with most flights being delayed & cancelled. Any advice on what would be the best way to get from city to city? I realize that it might vary depending on which leg of the trip I'm on. Also any advice on which airlines are best to travel within the country?

I flew around Brazil in August. Most flights were delayed, but none cancelled. Flying worked out fine.

I used TAM with an airpass for domestic flights.

You can have delays anywhere.

Brazil does not have a monopoly on airline delays.

I was delayed in Rio heading to San Paulo( about and hour)

I was leaving the Amazon on 2:45 AM flight that did not arrive until 5 AM.

But that is the only 2 delays I had during a month of flying around in South America..... so not bad at all considering that airlines have a record of being late 94 % of the time !!

hi, I would use TAM, bit more expensive but you can get their air pass, gol is ok but queues huge and can have a few more delays etc. Delays are usually weather related. You can also use Varig between rio and sao paulo. Try and use santos dumont airport in Rio if poss, much closer to city centre. And congonhas may be better for you than guarulhos in sao paulo depending on where you are staying.

Thanks so much for the info, I will check into the airpass, it seems like that might be our best route. Should that be available for iguacu & londrina as well as sp, rio & curitiba?

hi, yes the airpass should cover you everywhere, usually 5 cities so should be no problem. YOu need to get it OUTSIDE of brasil though,can't purchase it once here.
