Too hot in August?

Hello

I know there's been a few similar questions, but I'm unsure whether August would be too hot in Oaxaca town and the coast (near Puerto Escondido).

We are English- so used to cool and damp! with kids age 8 to 15.

Would either location be unbearable?

Should we try and get air conditioning?

Many thanks

Not too familar with Oaxaca. We've been to the Riviera Maya a few times in August and about died with the humidity. Even at night when the sun went down it was still hot and humid. We live in Texas and are used to 100+ degrees dry heat. Not wet and humid. I don't think we woul return there at that time of year. May, June or November would be better.

Actually, Oaxaca city should be pleasant in August. 80-ish highs with lows in the upper 50's at night. Its at about 5200 ft., so its cooler than you'd think. It is the rainy season, so there can be some residual humidity after a shower in the summer, but not like you'd think due to the drier overall climate. A fan would probably be enough.
On the other hand, PE will be brutal if you don't like high heat and humidity.

At that time of year Oaxaca city is just bearable, usually, PE or Huatulco are really hot at that time. This is from a Texas perspective, for brits its gonna be hot.

It's not so much the Heat in the lower coastal areas it is however very very humid.
If I travel to Mexico in the Summer/early Fall it is only to the higher elevations.
I am currently in Guanajuato at 6,000 '. It's temp only varies from highs of mid 70's to low 80's year round. Lows in the 40s/50s.

I think up in the mountains at higher elevations you'd be OK. The beach will be HOT, humid, plus it's height of the rainy season.

I don't think August is the height of the rainy seaon. In my experience (although you never know) late May through June is more like it. Last time I was in that area in August, Huatulco not PE, it was 100 and extordinarily hot and humid.

Thanks everybody, we're thinking now to spend 2 weeks in and around Oaxaca, and not go to the coast this time.
