Tip in dollars or pesos?

We are leaving for Argentina in three hours! I'm so excited. Do taxi drivers, servers, hotel staff, etc. prefer receiving tips in US$ or in AR pesos? Or do they have a preference?

Since you have to pay cabs in pesos, I would say tip them with pesos.

For waiters, it could be better in pesos, but it's not terribly important.

For hotel staff, it should be indifferent.

Have a great time in our country, jranger.

Never mind, money is money...any of our beloved presidents or any of your beloved presidents... Who cares?
But only if you feel they deserve a tip-

We are home from our wonderful Argentinian trip. While we didn't use US$ at all for purchases, etc., we did use them to tip hotel staff who seemed to appreciate them. As noted by those in the know, it doesn't make a difference one way or the other. By the way, we found almost all service people to be extremely friendly and helpful.

Does Argentina still seem like a bargain? Are restaurants still less expensive than in the US? In other words how far did your dollar go?

Of course, it depends on where you go for dinner, but I often have dinner with my wife, with a small bottle of decent wine for between 25 and 50 dollars for both of us and that is not only "less expensive", it is a fraction of what I'd pay in the US for a similar meal.

Now, if you go to Cabaña Las Lilas (a well-known tourist trap) that is another matter.....

We had some first rate meals in Buenos Aires and in Mendoza. We always had beautiful wines. In almost all cases, we felt we would have paid double or more here in Canada for those same meals. Argentinians have a gift for preparing simple but delicious foods.

Argentina's prices are going up, still they are less than in the US.
I always prefer to tip in the local currency , I see it like more polite, more low key. Why whould you like to call attention?
It is a wonderful destination, but security is always something to be considered. Please enjoy but be alert.

What % does one tip in Argentina? I have read 10-15%, round up for taxi rides, is this about right?

The level of service was high in our opinion. We tended to tip 10-20% on everything, depending on whether it was a cup of coffee or fine dining, etc. Taxis we usually rounded up generously.
