Has anyone ever been on a Tauck tour. We are thinking of taking an 8 day trip to Costa Rica. Does anyone have any experience this this travel agency? Tauck Bridges is "family" travel and includes kids as young as 7 or 8. Not sure if a 18 year old would be better with Bridges or with older group. Thanks.

Tauck is a very reputable tour company, and they are excellent, but also expensive. For Costa Rica, you may be better off going semi-independently, with a pre-arranged itinerary and transfers, but with some flexibility as well. Companies like Avanti Destinations and TravelBound do good jobs (as do others), but they work through travel agents only...

Thanks ebrener. This trip is a birthday present for a Senior in high school who is going with his Mom. They haven't done any real "solo" travel. Every trip they have taken is through a travel agent and in ***** hotels. So, it is a first, in a way for them. They usually travel to Europe; this is the first "third world" trip for them.

Tauck is an upscale travel company which is highly regarded, and which costs more because they provide more.

You can go by yourselves, but you lose the guidance and convenience of a group.

For an 18 y.o., the regular CR trip would be more appropriate.

BTW, Tauck is not an agency, since they do their own trips.

Sorry I missed your previous post...Given their ages, I would recommend something other than Tauck, as they usually have a more mature audience. If it's not too much of a stress for them, I would do a semi-independent trip, with all hotels and transfers, and some tours pre-arranged, but with time to explore on their own or to take other tours. They should have no problems staying at 5* hotels and still enjoy the country.
