In San Jose, we just stayed at the Hotel Milvia....while it has charm and was within walking distance of some restaurants (we ate at the Inca Grill), our room overlooked a courtyard and was quite dark and the lighting in the room wasn't good. So, it was kind of gloomy...other rooms may be brighter but we won't be staying there again. We prefer the Hotel Jade, near the San Pedro mall. We spent three nights at "Hotel" Punta Leonas, really a sprawling resort and we were in a one bedroom condo (LeonaMar). The property is gorgeous, the views of the ocean are spectacular, our accommodations were spacious and comfortable. It's very spread out and sometimes the shuttles aren't totally reliable. To get from our place to the main office was a 20 minute walk; farther to the restaurant. Playa Blanca is a fantastic beach!! At LeonaMar, we had a private (for the residents) pool and enjoyed it very much....one of those "infinity pools" that overlooked the ocean. Enjoyed the zip line experience that is on the property and felt it was safe and well run. Our biggest disappointment was the mediocre food, especially at dinner. Breakfast buffet was fine and lunch by Playa Blanca perfectly acceptable but did not like the dinner options....plus the restaurant didn't open until 7 which was a bit late for us our first night due to the time difference. We arranged for a driver to take us off the property the next two nights for dinner; dinner at Villa Caletas was very, very nice.

Trip Ideas
Well, at least you stepped out. You can and should pick a new place to stay in San Jose every trip. You experienced a good one, now pick another.
Punta Leona is a magical place when you finally figure out whats going on. Playa Blanca is far beyond any other beach the country has to offer.
Did you enjoy the sunset at Villa Caleta?
We spent a day at Punta Leona with some Tico friends and I thought Playa Blanca was one of the most beautiful beaches I'd ever seen! The water was so clear and warm that we stayed in for hours. An additional treat was the seven scarlet macaws in the trees at the end of the beach. It was my first time to see them and what a show!
