Seaweed in Cancun. Royalton Riviera July 2015
Good morning!
I'm looking to book a trip today leaving next week.
A beautiful comfortable beach is our top priority and I read about seaweed issues. Is there a smell and is the water cloudy?
Has anyone stayed here? What is the difference between diamond club and hideaway?
Are you able to get away from the entertainment sounds in the evening and how far of a walk is it from the accommodations to the beach?
Any other advice or would you encourage a different resort?
Any advice about airport transfers? A ceynote and ruins would be fun to see but no idea the best or distance or cost?
I think the Royalton is in "Hotel Zone"?
Thanks for any advice.

In the hotel zone of Cancun, they rake the sand with machines every night. So if there are seaweed issues (as there were when I was in the Riviera Maya area and Cancun last month a few weeks ago when I was there) it gets raked up every 24 hrs and you wont notice it on the beach.
The water is clear, not cloudy. I have no idea if seaweed is still heavy in the water as it was a few wks ago.

There are two Royalton hotels apparently. There is the Royalton Riviera Cancun and also the Royalton Riviera Maya, the second one is near Puerto Morelos. Depends which one you are staying at. The area around Puerto Morelos gets a bit more seaweed than other parts of the coast. However since last fall most of the coast has had more sargassum than usual.
I check the Akumal webcam daily on Locogringo (this area is further south) and the last week has not been so bad.
If I do not rent a car or travel with my friend who also rents, I have used USA Transfer 3 times. Canada Transfer also gets good reviews.
