Hello. I have a business trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil this April and would love to tack a few days onto the end to see Machu Picchu. I am probably not in good enough shape to do the four-day hike, but am hopeful that I can just fly straight to Cusco and catch the bus to see the ruins. I'll only have a few extra days I can squeeze out of this. Does any one have any good thoughts on this idea or have any suggestions? I'd love to know what airline to take from Sao Paulo to Cusco. And other posters seem to suggest acclimating for a day in Cusco. Thoughts? Many thanks in advance for your help!

ttt. Also, the airfares for SP to Cuzco are coming up at around $1200 with day-long itineraries. Does that seem right? Any quick advice is appreciated. Happy New Year~

Last time I was in Cuzco, you had to take a train to the ruins.

It can be done in a day but there is an hotel at the ruins.

Your flight sounds unreasonably expensive. I can get to Cuzco from New York for $750.

I agree. It does sound unreasonable -- which is why I'm asking. The problem seems to be in getting FROM Sao Paulo to Lima. I have yet to find a direct flight, or even anything close. The minimum I've found is three connections, which is why these itins are coming in at 24 hours. You're right; it's easy to get to Lima directly from JFK...but I'm starting in Sao Paulo.

I just traveled to Peru last year on June it was very funcy we were three girls in peru 25 years old and didn't have any kind of problem with any one April its good time to travel in Cuzco becouse before is raining season and later up June until August is high season, we were in a nice and cheap accommodation in Miraflores so if You are going to need any kind of help drop me on line

You have direct flights from Sao Paulo to Lima on Varig, the best Brazilian airline. These are daily flights and will take 5 hours. From Lima you can get a conexion to Cuzco with a Peruvian airline.
