San Ignacio,Belize to Flores,Guatemala

Can anyone suggest how my husband and I can get from outside of San Ignacio , Belize (Mariposa Lodge) to Flores, Guatemala (Hotel Casona del Lago Santa Elena? If you know reliable transfer companies that would be appreciated. We were quoted $460 by one company and that seems a bit steep for one way travel, but maybe it isn't. Also if you have recommendations for a tour or guide in Flores for Tikal that would be great. Many thanks.

Fabulous guide: archaeologist/naturalist Roxy Ortiz www.tikalroxy.blogspot.com

$460 is ridiculous unless you're a really large group. Have you contacted these?

We used Pacz to go from San Ignacio to Tikal. You could check with them; we thought they were great.

I know William's Belize Shuttle is a reliable transfer service, but I don't know if he will cross the border. You can contact him to find out.

If you can't find a service to take you all the way, just go as far as the border, cross by yourself and then continue by bus or taxi.

There are 3 daily express buses from Belize City to Flores. They're not supposed to stop at San Ignacio, but if you time your arrival right, you could board the bus when it stops on the Guatemalan side of the border.
More about the buses on the BelizeBus site...

If you miss the bus, get a taxi for about US$50.

When we went, we just tagged along with a tour group from our hotel that was doing a day trip. They just dropped us off at the Tikal Inn. I forget the cost--maybe $100-$200 for the two of us.

Many thanks to you all. We actually have changed our plans a bit and will be staying at the TIKAL Inn and they have a shuttle from San Ignacio for $30 per person...not $460!

Again thanks.

This is way late for the post but here I go.

I was talking to a friend of mine who came from Flores in Guatemala. The she explained of about a very nice company that actually operate on both side of the border, specialize in tours and transfers between the 2 countries. The company Mayan Heart World as it is call; she found ready and safe transportation.

They were very helpful in get us transferred, she explained that they were picked-up at the hotel in Flores was guided through the border crossing, transfer van and was drop off at their resort in San Ignacio Town.
She highly recommended it to anyone cross the border between Belize and Guatemala.
