sailing in san blas and bocas. some questions.........

we plan to be in both places in feb or march. are there opportunities for day sails in one or the other? we hear that the ocean around san blas can be quite rough in february/march. is this true? also, can anyone recommend any 2-4 overnight boat trips in either island group?

I am pretty sure you can get a day sail in Bocas but don't think so in San Blas, but San Blas Sailing offers multi-day trips - they would also be able to tell you more about the sea conditions.

Cheers,
Andrew

www.mamallena.com good place to find info on sailings

www.theandiamo.com one of the best boats in the area

although the captain is quite opinionated and

definitely an acquired taste

folks either like him or hate him...

We have family in Panama and on a couple of visits we used Ancon Expeditions to negotiate our tours. We were thrilled both times. The groups were very small and leaders extremely well informed. I know they do trips to Bocos & San Blas so you might check their web site.

Bocas will be easy to find a day sailer. Call or email the Bocas Marina. The Calypso Cafe at the Marina is run by a South African with great know-how of the locals. Dylan owns the Cafe and may be able to assist!

If you just want a skiff to go out for the day, check for the boat captains next to the Bocas Watersports docks. Bobby and two of his friends that we met and hired on different days were reliable.

Happy travels!
