Yes. It is safe now to travel to Cancun, or any other tourist resort destination in Mexico. Always has been.

Yes, was just there last week. Quintana Roo is well protected by many "tourist police" patrolling hotel row.

Safe from what?

Drug lord wars? Yes, always has been. That's an issue in boarder towns.

Safe from Swine Flu? Yes, there was none to speak of in the Yucatan ever.

Safe from getting sun burned, hung over or just plain having too much fun? Never safe from that!

There's a reason why the deals are so good, though. It could be unbearably hot and humid, so beware of that. I went to Cancun in July a few years ago and will never go to Mexico again in the summer. I lived in the southwest and visited Israel in the summer, but I had never experienced anything like that. You couldn't even cool off in the water because it was so hot. If you can afford it, Hawaii is much nicer particularly that time of year, although it is more expensive.

As far as safety, you'll be fine.
