Sad Sad Day for my favorite beach city

http://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/cops...3189-349495769
3 unarmed policeman murdered yesterday in Ixtapa/Zihuatanajo a continuation of escalating violence in my former home.
Things (at least for me) started going in the toilet 5 years ago when my my best friend in Mexico Rafael was shot down while waiting at a bus stop in Zihua. Since then things have gone from bad to worst, This year nightly gunfire, shootings & violence which while has not involved many tourists (a couple have been shot in Ixtapa a couple of years ago) but according to friends the streets are absent of tourist after dark & fewer & fewer visitors are coming. It seems to be heading toward another Acapulco.
I have not been there for 2 years nor has my partner ( of our townhouse) widow. In fact we are in the process of selling it at a lost.
So sad!

This is very sad indeed.

I have always like Ixtapa/Zihuatanajo .

What will Mexico eventually become at this rate.?

That's exactly the kind of thinking we don't need to encourage with posts like this one.

Guerrero has always been this way, I can remember 40 years ago, it was bandito country even then.

We're just fine here. Many places in Mexico are amazingly safe. Take a look at the stats and you'll find that our levels of safety are much lower than the US and Canada. Did you know that Canada leads the stats in rape. I'm not why no one starts threads about that.

When I first got to Zihua in '98 I remember my wife & I sitting at the Marina cafe on the Fisherman's walk looking out at the lovely bay across to La Ropa & Los Gatos. We talked how perfect it was with this where we wish to spend our final days. Alas it is no longer our choice.

Can you post the link of the place you are selling? Where is it exactly?

Just curious. I lived there in the late 80s and have not been back since mid-90s. Don't think I'd let one incident scare me off, or two incidents. Hope the place does not go down the tubes totally.

Did Owen still own his place at Las Gatas when you were there?

Owen had a stroke 3 years ago & was in rehab in the Bay area for some time. He is a great guy. I first met him in the mid 60's at Wartburg College, in Waverly,Iowa where he was giving a lecture about his time as a member of Jacques Cousteau's crew.
I have not heard anymore about him for a year or two.
Our former home is sold but was located at Selva Del Mar in Ixtapa.
Not any one thing but most of my friends have moved on or died & the beach no longer holds my interest as it once did I now much prefer the mountains so spend much of my time there either at Guanajuato, Mex or Trinity County, Ca.

Sorry to hear that about Owen. Thanks for the update. I never went back cause I am kind of afraid what it had become, apart from any crime issues.
