Trip Report Riviera Maya Travel Report

Jump to last reply

Hi there! Well i'm new at this forum and entered looking information for my next trip to Puerto Vallarta in June, so anything you can share is valuable.

Also as i see many travelers share their experiences i would love to share with you my experience in Riviera Maya in past January. I believe it may be helpful for some of you, get ideas or tips!

Well, i chose to book my flight with US Airways since i found a special promotion paying with my credit card and i actually booked my flight like 4 month before my travel dates. Well service, not a complain.

I'm the kind of women who likes to prebook everything in order to have all my trip organized, i'm not much into forums and blogs (till now!) but a friend of mine who was there some weeks before, gave me some valuable advices.

I booked transportation from Cancun Airport to the Occidental Xcaret, the official Xcaret's hotel. I made this reservation through Discovery Mundo, they were on time and driver gave me some helpful advices in things to do. As i was completely satisfied with their service, i used them again for my other transfer from hotel to hotel and they gave me a great discount (I had to ask for it).

The Occidental Xcaret was fantastic! I didn't like the fact that at my arrival they didn't have my room ready (and it was 1 hour after check-in hour), they were offering me a two-beds room, but i was traveling with my boyfriend and wanted a King o Queen Bed so i waited till it was ready but i had to speak with manager due to rude's recepcionist attitude.
I stayed there for 2 nights and enjoy at most the buffet and shows. I loved the disco and the open bar is one of the best i've ever tried.

Of course that while in there i visited the Xcaret Park, and also booked a Xel-há Tour and a visit to Contoy Island.

Then as recommended from my friend and Discovery Mundo's driver, i went to Tulum. After a long internet search for hotel i booked in Zamas Tulum. It took me like half an hour to get into Tulum's mode. It's an ecological place, extremely beautiful!!! The room i choose has an amazing ocean view and was the best place in the world to watch a romantic sunset. The bed was hanging from the ceiling, very romantic.
Bathroom has no door, i mean it was the room's design; i was staying with my boyfriend but it may be akward for families i supposed.
The guys in the lobby (if you can call it a lobby) included me a continental breakfast for free and help me with some good advices about restaurants there.
But be prepared! No internet, lights turn off at 8 pm, water is salty... ecological mode!

While staying in Tulum i visited Tulum Ruins by my own, didn't need a company.

At last, i stayed one night in the Clipper's club Cancun. It was not my idea to stay in Cancun, but i booked a scuba diving day and didn't want to wake up at 4AM just to get to Cancun. Hotel was small. Clean and cheap, not my traveling style actually but a good option if you are looking to save money.

I was very satisfied with service received through the chosen agency and hotels. I can't wait to go back to the Riviera Maya to finish exploring it. It has so many options it gets hard to decide where to go. Hope i had more time but surely enjoyed the week i was there at my best!
