Riviera Maya

Can anyone tell me more about this location? We found a great deal at the Aventura Spa Palace. If we stay there, is it easy to get into Cancun? Can you go to the other Palace Resorts? We're still trying to decide on our Dec vacation and we thought about St John, but for the same price we can go AI in Mexico. We like being able to leave the resort and explore and we did that in Cancun, but I'm not sure how easy that is in Riviera Maya. Thanks!

Mel,

It's very easy to get around the Yucatan. Rt. #307 runs from Cancun to Playa Del Carman, to Tulum and further south. I recommend CanDo Maps, which are as much a guide book as great maps for the area. You can order the Riviera Maya map. You can rent a car, which I recommend, or take a bus. Small local vans run up and down Rt. #307 and are very inexpensive.

You will be closer to Playa del Carmen than to Cancun. Yes, you can use the other Palace resorts while staying at the Aventura.

We just returned from the Puerto Adventuras area. Our all-inclusive resort was the Palladium. We were also closer to Playa del Carmen than Cancun. There is much to see and do in MX!
We went on the vans mentioned and it was fine! We had to exit our resort gate and wait at a bus stop on the highway. It was only $2.00 per person and the taxi was $23.00 one way! On the van many MX citizens were on their way to work it seemed. They were all friendly and the van driver was very helpful to let us know the best place to get off the van and where to meet it to return. Playa del Carmen is great for shopping, and the beaches are beautiful!!
In the Adventuras area you are very close to Tulum ancient ruin. It isn't as big as the other ruins, but beautiful on the ocean front. The beaches there are breath taking and if you have time, swim there. It is great!
We love Xel-Ha. The snorkeling is the best in a lagoon. There is swimming with dolphins if you want to pay extra and they look like they are treated well. It is always a concern with captured dolphins as to their treatment! You can go down a freshwater stream into the the lagoon on an intertube by traveling up to it on a bike or by a little train. You can snorkel, make sure you go under the bridges in the lagoon areas and near the swinging bridge that is between the ocean and lagoon. Fish Everywhere! There is much to eat and enjoy! We aren't as crazy about Xecaret, but it is pretty.
There are also cenotes (sink holes) everywhere in the area for snorkeling, zip line playing, and fresh water cooling off.
Akumal is close too. It is a wonderful place to dive or snorkel. The reef is beautiful there!
I understand there is a public bus that is only about $1.50 per person. We didn't try that.
Taxis are expensive, but a way to go too. And, your resort can get one for you just by asking.
I wouldn't rent a car in MX. It is a negative for us after what we read in Fodors and otherwise. Some people do, and it works fine for them, but the issue is if you have an accident or problem...the insurance and police just aren't what it is in the states!!
I don't know about going to the other Palace Resorts. But, we were able to go to the other Palladium resorts and that is usually the case. I'd ask your travel agent or Palace directly.
There are many resorts along the Riviera Maya. If you want closer to Cancun, check out a map, and the resorts.
Enjoy where you decide to go!!

From Cancun to Playa del Carmen and on through the Riviera Maya, the Yucatan Peninsula is full of things to do. Transportation is a breeze!

If you are staying at the Aventura Spa Palace, you should be able to have all of your tours free... at least that is what we are able to offer people who rent our timeshare.

Not included on the list of free tours is Xcaret which I highly recommend! Go to their website and check it out. It's Fabulous! http://www.xcaret.com

In regards to using the other Palace Resorts... yes! Palace Resorts allows you to use the facilities at any of their all-inclusive resorts while you are staying with them. A quick trip to Playacar Palace or Xpu Ha Palace for a day or just a new environment for your 'all-inclusive' dinner and drinks is like a night out on the town without paying!

You could even take the ferry over to Cozumel and stop in at the Cozumel Palace!

If you were fortunate enough to find a Palace Resorts timeshare owner to garner access to their Palace Premier Membership and the free massage, manicure and pedicure for everyone in your party... you will love the facility at the Aventura Spa Palace. All of the Palace Resorts have spa facilities that will pamper you and relax you immediately.

You will love the Riviera Maya.. It is in the heart of the Yucatan Peninsula and all of its wonders!

We visited there the last week of May and had a wonderful time. I highly recommend it. The water is so beautiful and beach was such lovely white sand, and so clean.
We can't wait to go back. Be sure to visit XCARET, which is south of Playa Del Carmen, if you can.

Think you better cut way back on the advertising, there, Donna-Lee. You've already got people's back up at this thread
