Rio Celeste Hike...is a guide necessary?

I looked at the Desafio website and the guided tour is $105pp. That includes transportation and lunch (8 hrs) but we will have a car and are staying at Tabacon. It just seemed like alot of money.

When we looked into it, it was a hike that lasted several hours and was a few miles long, also recommended for expert fitness levels. I would want a guide if I did it.

I have no idea if this is a good company or not, but the price is $35 per person if you want to research it.

We have not used him, but Erick Guzman is a guide that seems to be recommended a lot on this board and the Tripadvisor CR forum. He does a tour to Rio Celeste, and I believe he charges a flat fee of $70, plus the entrance fee to the park. Here is his website:

We tried to book him for some tours in June, but he is not available at that time. Maybe your dates would work out though.

Just drive yourself to the park entrance. You can get a certified guide for around 20$ total.. Well worth it.

You don't need a guide - the trail is pretty straightforward and marked. But a guide can help you understand what you are seeing and point out wildlife you might miss.

If you are going to go on a tour, definitely www.ruralcostarica.com I'm sure they could arrange to just have you pick up one of their guides also.
