Resport Advice for Costa Rica

My daughter is spending the fall in Nicaragua. In December, we plan to visit her and then go to Costa Rica to Arendahl. the Cloud Forest and then a resort on the Pacific. Looking for suggestions on where to stay in each location. In terms of the resort, we would like some place with a local feel.
