A group of girls are looking to go to the Mayan Riviera in November to celebrate a 30th birthday. We are looking for an all-inclusive resort that is: close enough to Playa to possibly walk, has a terrific pool with swim up bar, great service, and perhaps even a spa. Can anyone make recommendations? I heard the Iberostar Queztal is great, but we really would like a swim-up bar or does it matter because the service is good enough there??

There are dozens of AI's in the area.
The closest two in the gated Playacar resort area are Viva Azteca, (great pool but no swim up bar) and The Reef Club, who does have a swim up bar, but it's a smaller pool. I think the one IN town is Puerto Real but I know nothing of their pool. You might want to check out:

This board is very active regarding all the AI's in the area. Happy hunting!
We stayed at the RIU Playacar - they have a swim up bar, walk to PDC is 20 -30 minutes, and they have two massage huts on the beach. Great place
Gran Porto Real is AI, the Closest Hotel to Playa del Carmen.
It has a pool with swim up bar, beach (a little rocky in spots), A SPA.
A Disco, Get the JR. STE Rooms, they are MUCH nicer than Standard.
