Ramons Village / Ambergis
We are considering Ramons Village for next March, but I am concerned about how noisy/nightclubby it is. The Fodor's Belize book pretty much gives it a thumbs down, unless you're twentysomething. We like quiet nights, stargazing, etc., not raucous noisy parties in the next cabana.

Has anyone been there recently?

Martha,
My husband and I stayed at Ramon's Village last year. We are 30-somethings who were not looking for nightlife -- we prefer a quiet vacation. There was maybe one night where the live music from the bar intruded on our sleep (and we keep the windows open -- hate AC!); the rest of our stay was fairly peaceful.

I'm not sure where the intimation that Ramon's is for twentysomethings comes from. Perhaps the reviewer caught Ramon's during an unusually young and loud week. We found ourselves to be at the young end of the age spectrum among Ramon's guests, for whatever its worth.

If you would like to find out more about Ramon's and Ambergris Caye, e-mail me directly, or visit my personal website, which has a report of my Belize trip -- www.homestead.com/islandtime/MainPage1.html.

Cheers,
Eva

Ramon's may be an active location for Belize, but it's not too active for by most standards. Very well run hotel, they do a great job of making their guests at home and comfortable. If you want quieter, look at Victoria House and if you want even quieter, Look at Captain Morgan's.

Katie Valk
Belize

We spent a month in ambergris 3 years ago. The caye is very small and the night life is nothing like a city. Ramon's is probably the most lively but as the island is so small, you won't find it excessive - there is not enough room for that many people. Belize and expecially Ambergris have posted lots of info on the internet - have a look.
