Hi, my fiance and I are thinking of going to Belize in early June (June 1 - 10) - how much rain should we expect if we stay in the northern part of the country (we would like to snorkle)? And if it rains, does it rain all day, or just for a few hours? Thanks very much for your help!
Rain in June?

Hard to say. The seasonal rains usually start in June, but with weird world weather patterns it's not that predictable. Could start in late May, could start in July, might even start in November!
But northern Belize (including the northern cayes) gets little more rain than Atlanta, Ga.
If it does rain, unless there's some kind of tropical wave coming through, it'll probably rain for a hour or two, then there's plenty of sun.
No need to worry about the weather. Just go!

Thank you for responding so quickly; since I see that you are the "Belize Answer Man", would you have any recommendations where we should stay? We would like to snorkle, do some hiking, see some ruins, and stay in a place that is nice but not overly "resorty" (e.g., we do not need a swim-up bar). Any thoughts? And thanks again!
Lots of places like that on Ambergris Caye. Some on Caye Caulker though Caulker hotels don't have amenities like swimming pools.
On Ambergris, I'd suggest spots like Coconuts, Banana Beach, AquaMarina Suites, Xanadu, The Palms, SunBreeze, Paradise Villas, Belizean Shores, Blue Tang Inn and The Tides.
On Caulker some of the nicer places (but still budget to moderate in price) are Popeye's, Iguana Reef Inn, De Real Macaw and Treetops.
Of course for the ruins and hiking, you'll have to do day trips to the mainland.
Alternatively you could go to Hopkins or Placencia, but in the case of Placencia at least it takes almost as long to go inland from the peninsula as from the northern cayes. And the chance of heavier rain is a greater in June the farther south you go.
