Quick trip to Mexico City for 4 nights this Christmas

Jump to last reply

Hi all, My friend and I just booked a flight to Mexico City to explore for 4 nights from Dec 23 - 27. In general we like to stay in hostels to meet people, are very interested in culture and off-the-beaten-path sites, and are less interested in tourist hotspots.

I've done some research on this forum and WikiTravel to get a sense of what we should be doing, but wanted to ask your advice for cool things to add to our itinerary. I had a couple questions to get me started:

- I've heard traditional wrestling matches happen twice a week. Is there an authentic place to check out you guys recommend?
- Given we'll be there for Christmas, are there any interesting cultural activities happening in the city at that time?
- Are there nearby pueblos or small towns we can visit for a day (stay overnight) to get a sense of the more rural Mexican culture?
- In general, are there other activities we should consider doing in the city? We tend to be on the more adventurous side (motorcycles? etc)

Thanks so much!
Kevin
