PV - "Must Do List" suggestions
First visit to Puerto Vallarta (12/31/05 to 1/14/06).
Was wondering what you'd put on the "must do/see list" for PV. Sites, food, events, etc. (anything/everything)
Also, since were going to be there for a couple of weeks, would Manzanillo be worth the drive/trip or is it just more of the same?

The New Year's Eve street party on Olas Altas at midnight, should not be missed.
Definitely go whale watching and do the Los Veranos canopy tour.
Vallarta can easily take up your two weeks, Manzanillo is more of a commercial city with a large port.

spend the day under a palapa on Playa Los Muertos beach on the southside
parasailing, boogie board, inner tubes, banana boats
take a water taxi down to Yelapa for the day
take a bus out to El Anclote beach near Punta de Mita
rent a car and drive north along the coast to San Pancho and Sayulita up to San Blas
stroll the Malecon in the evening, eat an ice cream cone or get a corn on the cob
visit the cathedral with the crown on the top, light a candle, make a donation
get fresh orange juice from the stand on the sidewalk
eat tacos
if you're looking for a couple day trip i would consider Guadalajara by bus, but for me i can easily spend two weeks in Puerto Vallarta

New Years eve on the Malecon --FANTASTIC!! Ditto all the above but DO NOT leave out PiPi's restaurant for great mexican dinner and fun. It is on the street called Pipila ( and about 4 blocks up from the ocean). Sayulita is charming and fairly close. Manzanillo-- do that on another trip is my advice. You are picking the perfect time. Whale watching with snorkeling on Marietas Island is worthwhile that time of year.
