We wanted to try the canyoning tour with Pure Trek when we were at Los Lagos near Fortuna. Has anyone done this tour? Was it worth it and was it safe. I was going to book for my husband and two boys 10 and 13.Any feedback would be appreciated.

I am good friends with the owners of this tour. I'm not saying this because I am friends with them, but the tour is a great experince. It takes you down 4 waterfalls and through the heart of the jungle. The views are amazing and the wildlife is everywhere. You defanetly wont be upset with this one.

This adventure looks like so much fun on the website. There is one thing I can't figure out, is the Pure Trek tour done at the La Fortuna waterfalls or at other waterfalls in the area?

We stayed at the Lost Iguana resort in Arenal in June 2005 and booked the Puretrek canyoning waterfall rapelling at our hotel desk. I booked it for my husband and young adult son and daughters. It tends to book up fairly quickly so the only openings that were available were for 2 days from the day we arrived, and only the noon (second) trip was available. Fortunately we had enough time in Arenal that we were able to take that booking.

My family returning from the outing wet and feeling exhiliarated, but with some complaints as well. My husband felt it seemed safe, but it was too rushed, apparently the morning group had gotten a late start, causing the afternoon group to be rushed. Hubby said he felt like everyone was practically pushed over the cliff, the leaders were in such a hurry to get it done! Hubby was disappointed in the big rush, as he's a biologist and was hoping for at least a few moments to examine the area, instead of being practically shoved over the cliff. Daughters complained the helmets that you have to wear smelled bad! (Probably from being wet and on many heads for many days.)

It was fairly expensive, about twice as much as the Sky Trek/Sky Tram zip-lines. All together, my family agreed it was a unique and exciting experience, and a bit scary, but for the price, they could have done a better job in how they handled the group (not being in such a rush); and also, for the price, the zip-line was a much better deal for the money.

We loved the Pure Trek Canyoning tour! Felt very safe with equipment and tour guides. We went in the morning and never thought about being rusehed as there were twelve of us on the tour and we had to wait for each person to repel before moving on. Your boys will think they are very cool especially if they have pictures they can show to their friends. Wished they could have reversed the route as the highest cliff was the first one and the scariest one. You do look silly in their gear and helmets but everyone is dressed the same. I would highly recommend it as a great family bonding experience and also for getting to know other travelors.

My husband and I did this on our honeymoon a couple of months ago. Both of us agree that it was one of the best parts of our trip. We felt very safe, and the guides were great. The scenery is amazing, and while it was a little scary at first, I was totally comfortable by halfway down the first rappell. Our only complaint was that we wished it lasted about twice as long because we were having such a good time. Plus, you get lunch after (on the morning trip) that is great. Yeah, it is a more expensive tour, but worth every penny.

Kay -- La Fortuna waterfall is not one of the ones on this trip.
