Puerto Vallarta for honeymoon... Ideas??

We are thinking of visiting Puerto Vallarata in March 2015 for our honeymoon.

What's the weather like that time of year? Any nice resorts beachside?
Any areas we should avoid (don't want to be in a party area!) just relaxation!

Thanks for your help

Weather is excellent in March normally.
As far as resorts I stay at a small inn in the hills probably not the beat honeymoon spot.
PV is a party town but as a none drinker I can attest that you can have a great time without partying.

There are lots of nice beachside resorts. What are you looking for? Nuevo Vallarta has a lot of all inclusives but it is a distance from town. Marina Vallarta has some nice resorts also - in fact, I will be going on Saturday and staying at the Westin. It's about a 15 minute cab ride to the Malecon, which is the area downtown with a lot of restaurants and people strolling. If you want to stay at a "resort" but be in the downtown area, I did come across a hotel called Villa Premiere that is an adults only property and gets very good reviews (but it is more of a boutique hotel, than a large sprawling resort).

Weather seems to be nice in PV all the time. I've been checking on it the last few weeks in anticipation of my trip and it has been steadily in the mid80s and partly/mostly sunny.

I would suggest Lindo Mar, a smallish place just a little south of town, 5min by bus or taxi. It's on a nice little cove, small beach but not busy. Well known restaurant with a nice Sunday Brunch.
Most of our restaurants are on the south side of town, not so many downtown.

I was in PV last week and the weather was beautiful. It was in the upper 80s/low 90s, which was on the warm side for me, but I can't complain.

My husband, son and I stayed at the CasaMagna Marriott in Marina Vallarta, but went into town almost everyday. The location was quiet and relaxing, which I liked, but I also enjoyed the restaurants and activity downtown. We are kind of torn on where to stay on our next trip. Downtown is fun and there is a lot to do, but I also liked escaping back to my quiet hotel in the afternoon. Punta Mita, further north, looks gorgeous but I think I'd feel trapped.

Although I didn't notice a lot of children, March will be prime spring break time so keep this in mind.

As you probably know, the beaches aren't white sand with turquoise water, but I think the mountain setting framing the bay and the beautiful sunsets make up for it.

Cabron, Lindo Mar looks like a place I'd consider for my next trip. Thanks!

The weather is great in March. What kind of resort are you looking for? Casa Magna Marriott is a beautiful place in The Marina. Villa Premiere is a more Mexican-styled resort in the Hotel Zone (nearer to town). Quinta Maria Cortez is a boutiq

oops...

boutique hotel at the far south end of Playa Los Muertos (main beach on the south-side/Zona Romantica area).

Casa Isabel, Hacienda San Angel, Casa Amorita are luxury hotels/B&Bs not beachfront but in the hills overlooking the city with great views.

Agree with Carbon. The Linda Mar is a great apartment complex on a wonderful but small beach Stayed there using a friends time share a number of years ago.

Villa Premiere isn't in the Hotel Zone, it's located between the Hotel Zone and Downtown, see map: http://vallartainfo.com/n_downtown.html

I thought the "south Hotel Zone" ran all the way into Centro, stopping at the Rosita Hotel at the head of the Malecon.

I looked on their website and Villa Premiere does call their location "downtown".

Don't believe everything on a website, I can put anything I like on mine. The hotel is not in Colonia Centro, which is downtown. Naturally they would like to call themselves 'Downtown" when they are actually in "5 de Deciembre"

Whether that hotel is technically downtown or not wouldn't be a primary concern for me but whether or not it is walking distance to the Malecon would be. I had considered this hotel when planning my trip and the main reason was its location near the Malecon. Are you saying that is not accurate (would like to know for future reference)?

Yes Villa Premiere is walking distance to the Malecon maybe 10-15 mins. to the north end of it.

JR's point is that I was wrong... in that *I* consider that stretch along the water where Buenaventura/Villa Premiere is located to be the "South Hotel Zone".

But he says it is not. He also disagrees with the Villa Premiere's own website which says they are located "in the downtown area".

So we aren't arguing the actual location, which IS convenient walking distance to the Malecon, but rather the correct name of the zone. Which IS technically the colonia of 5 de Deciembre, but tourists wouldn't likely know where or what that designation means.

we just got back from the Westin at the Marina and it was wonderful. Nice, nice beach - two pools (one loud music and one very quiet). Tennis courts, nice gym, spa. We had a two-story suite with a hot tub on the downstairs balcony overlooking the ocean...it would be great for honeymooners.
One suggestion - do not miss lunch at the Ocean Grill. Beautiful, romantic, adventurous, ahd wonderful food.
Congratulations !

Seems to me the farther you get from the old town, the nicer and quieter the beaches become. That said, you'll definitely want to spend time downtown and on the malecon to shop and eat and explore. I recently stayed at the Fiesta Americana (after switching from the Hotel Play Conchas Chinas, which you should absolutely avoid), and it was excellent. Great room, staff, pool. There was a nice, wide beach in front and it wasn't crowded. A few years ago, I stayed at the Barcelo Mismaloya a few miles south of town and loved it. It's in a really nice cove, where they shot Night of the Iguana. The beach was small and just about nonexistent when the tide was high, but the water was crystal clear when it was calm. The resort was really nice and kind of secluded. One thing: I've since seen reviews on tripadvisor from people saying they got sick from the food. I had no problems, but that raises some red flags for me.
