problem with reservations in Costa Rica
Yesterday I faxed reservations to these 2 hotels Costa Verde and Aranel Paraiso in Costa Rico. Neither received my faxes. I have no fax machine so I do not want to keep sending faxes that cost me money they do not receive. They will not take a credit card number via email over the internet. No problem with the Orquideas Inn taking a credit card number nor the Hampton Inn. Anyone else encountered this problem? Would we just do as well arriving in September and getting places then as I know they are not booked as heavily it being the Green Season.
Have traveled in quite a few countries, but this different.
Thanks for your input.

Mary Anne,
I would give it a couple of days before expecting a reply. If you dont have a confirmation fax in a couple of day you might want to call to verify. I ran into this when traveling to Italy and staying in smaller places. I wouldnt get anything then I would give them a call and they would tell me "yes, everything is fine".

If you go to Arenal Paraiso's web site and click on "reservations" you can fill out the form which includes the credit card #. I did this and later received a confirmation by e-mail. http://www.arenalparaiso.com/english/hotel.htm

I used the reservation page at the Costa Verde website, pretty sure they asked for my CC # as a guarentee. It did, though, take them about 3-4 days to respond. I would just e-mail them instead of faxing.

Is it true we will not have problems finding avaialble rooms in CR during the green season? I am leaving in a few days to CR and can't seem to make up my mind about hotels I'm thinking of booking my first night in Arenal and then winging it for the 6 nights in Arenal and Manuel Antonio...any thoughts!

I too spent many days and $$$$"s trying to get a fax to Peace Lodge. my fax report would go partway through the fax machine and then come back with an error message that says "Poor line quality", so I assume that some of the CR phone lines can not readily accept fax calls.

Yes, canibosh, it is true. July is a little busier because of vacationers. Once school has started here and other places, you can expect fewer tourists. You should have no problem. That said, if there is someplace that you are dead set on staying, reserve it.

Thanks everyone for your help. Finally got our reservations confirmed by scanning and then emailing info needed. It seems somehow in some places these faxes are not getting through. When you have a short time (Sept.2-10) to try to see as much of Costa Rico as you can you do want to know you have the place you want to stay. Looking forward to this beautiful country and its people.
