You should buy a guide book and pour yourself into it - I like the Rough Guide but there's a new Lonely Planet coming out next month, I believe.

Look for my recent travelogue for places I enjoyed. Happy trails!

I would suggest you viist Tikal mayan ruins and Flores, Lake Atilian and the surroundings and the market at ChiChi. Antigua is a lovely colonial town about 40 minutes from Guat city. In the area of the Rio Dulce check out Livingston and Quiriguá, a site of Mayan ruins.

Tikal, Lago Atitlan, Antigua, Maximón in San Andres. Even though ChiChi is a little touristy it is an incredible market

I only made it to Tikal/Flores...but both are stunning, particularly the remote-ness of Tikal and the wildlife/plantlife. Truly in the middle of the jungle, highly recommend it!
