Placencia--Best to stay in Village?

We are planning our honeymoon in Belize for one week in mid-July. We've decided on four nights in Placencia and three nights in San Ignacio. It is confusing about the beaches in the Placencia area. Is it best to stay in the village or is it more secluded in the northern parts of the peninsula?
We will probably rent a car for part of our stay and want to do some snorkeling and some exploring.
We'd like a moderately priced place to stay that is private and beach-front.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

you won't need a car in placencia, Mid July isn't going to that busy, slow....in the village they have all the bigger grocery stores, etc., but there are also great places on the beach in the village. the penisula is pretty skinny, try placencia.com for lots of good information..on the beach is tradewinds, mirasol (kinda new), george cowdrey's guest house, and so on. have fun.

More secluded and private outside of the village. Laru Beya and Maya Beach Hotel both have moderately priced rooms.

Thank you for responding! It's amazing how little info I've been able to gather about Placencia. It looks much more ideal for us than the more touristy, partying atmospere of the Cayes.
I've sent e-mails to some of the lodges/hotels and have not gotten replies.
Are we crazy to make reservations for July, the off-season?
If it rains, will that ruin the possibility of snorkeling?
Does anyone know anything about Calico Jack's Resort? It seems to be closer to the beach than anywhere else, but they don't return my e-mail inquiries!
I'll try the Maya Beach, which gets great reviews on Trip Advisor. My only concern is that it appears less private than a cabana setting.
Any thoughts? I'm really stressing out about finding the best option because this IS our honeymoon (even though we're in our 50's and have been married before!)
Thanks again.

Greetings, beachmama7! So happy to see another "mature" couple venturing to Placencia. My husband and I, along with our best friends, (all of us in our 50's) are going to Placencia in June 2009. Would love to hear what you have to say when you return! We will be staying at Mirasol Villa in the two one bedroom apartments for 2 weeks during Lobsterfest! We chose Mirasol because they look beautiful online and they are one of the few places that seem to have air conditioning and are reasonably priced. We will be taking some nonperishables along to cut costs and will prepare most of our own meals. Please, please let us know about your trip --- and congratulations & enjoy your honeymoon! LuAnn
