Photos from recent trip to three new Mexican states, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro and Guanajuato. I visited the capitals of all three states, plus San Miguel de Allended in Guanajuato. The capital cities of Queretaro and Guanajuato, as well as San Miguel, are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
I relied on the Mexican bus system, which is inexpensive, comfortable, reliable and frequent.

Haven't yet been to SMA or SLP. How would you compare them to Guanajuato, a city we greatly enjoyed?
Guanajuato is, to me, more beautiful and more interesting than the other three cities I visited, with better museums (e.g., mummy museum and Diego Rivera birthplace). Queretaro and San Miguel de Allende are similar to Guanajuato, and if you enjoyed your time there, you may enjoy either or both of them.
The colonial silver tonws are a wonderfully interesting part of Mexico.

I was in the region last month, mostly in the countryside with day trips to San Miguel, Jilotepec and Tepotzotlan. The cities were much busier than I expected. I'd heard a lot about Queretaro and Guanajuato, so I'm glad you posted pics.
I love the colonial towns in MX. They are my favorite. I went to Puebla last summer and fell in love w/that area also. My next trip is to Oaxaca for dia de los muertos (yea, only 6 more weeks!) but after that I plan to fly into Leon on the next trip and go to Guanajuato again. As your pics demonstrate, these are lovely preserved towns w/great charm and color. Thanks for posting!

I only wish you had included some shot of people -- I don't count the mummys. I go to Mexico for the people, and the activity, not monuments.

Thanks for the photo-report. I remember seeing those mummies when I studied in Guadalajara for a summer about 45 years ago. Sheesh, where does the time go?
