Papagayo or Brasilito Area

We don't want to drive, but will take day tours. Which area is most convenient to sites--white water rafting, Parks, etc. We would stay in either the Paradisus Playa Conchal or one of the upscale hotels in the Papagayo area.

You'll be able to find good day tours from both areas. We really like the Brasilito area, but our thrill comes from having a car and tooling around to neat places nearby.

That said, we fell in love with Costa Rica almost 10 years ago while staying at Papagayo. We did a couple of day tours from there, and really enjoyed the Rincon de la Vieja area.

Palo Verde, operated by the Organization for Tropical Studies, is an excellent daytrip more convenient to Brasilito. The Paradisus has an excellent beach behind it(one of the most beautiful in CR, my opinion, crushed shells, calm blue water). The times we stayed there (a few) we never ventured out there because of that fab pool inside. However, since we don't stay there anymore, we often drive up to that beach from Brasilito just to spend a few hours. The beaches of Papagayo are less interesting, my opinion again!

You will enjoy yourselves either way. That's the good news. Hard to say that one area is better than the other.

Papagayo would win on proximity to parks like

www.rincondelavieja.net but the beaches are

atrocious as are most of the resorts

check www.tripadvisor.com carefully...

Thank you for your replies. We've decided to stay in the Rincon de la Vieja area, probably at Guachipelin, because of its proximity to the Park.
From there, we'll go to the Paradisus. Should we go back to Liberia Airport for transport or should we try to book something from the Hotel? We're not driving ourselves.

I would think that the hotel can take care of the transport to Brasilito. Arranging transportation around the country seems to be something the ticos are very adept at - just ask at the Lodge.
