Beginning January 17, 2011, press reports indicate that Panama will begin to offer insurance covering various medical costs including sending back your remains to your home country if you pass away. Also, hospital and medicine costs. Of course there are limits and the coverage will be good for thirty days. It appears that the insurance is for those arriving by air at the international airport.

thanks yet another good reason to
www.visitpanama.com
and another good reason to die in Panama, apparently!
I'm kidding. Do hope to get there eventually...
We actually were there in the middle of February. We were indeed handed over the free insurance card at the immigration check in at PTY airport. Although we didnt have to use it, the coverage looked quite good.
