Panama City with 3 kids 12,11 and 10

Hi there,

I am planning a trip for 4 nights would like to plan my itinerary...please recommend which are the best places of interest for them. There are so many tours to the Panama Canal...I am confused. Monkey Island?? Embera Village ?? Gamboa ?? all the trips need to be days tours. Thanks in advance for your advise.

If you like hiking, I recommend Gamboa. Lots of beautiful birds and you may see howler monkeys.
Monkey island is cool as well. The boat ride is nice. The monkeys may get on the boat and try to take your snacks!!
The embera village thing is nice but I think too commercial. The nicer villages are higher up the Chagres river.
Be sure to a place called Country Store & Café while in the city, they get regular visits of Geofrey's tamarin monkeys and have excelent fresh food and are close to the Canal (and it sounds like you may be spending some time in that area...

We used the services of www.senderopanama.com on our visit to Panama. A family travel oriented local operator.
Gamboa is a great option to stay because of location and swimming pool for the kids.
In Bocas I recommend playa tortuga , again: location and swimming pool.
Neither of both places have the greatest cousine ...

@ PanamaNatural - can you recommend a tour guide/company for one the villages higher up the Chagres River...as all the one I see are the Embera Village.
Hiking - is not up my kids alley unfortunately.
Any recommendations for tour company/guide for the Canal?
Thanks in advance.

Try the Gamboa Rainforest Resort. They have a tram you can take through the forest to overlook the rainforest. You can also walk up a very tall tower that overlooks the panama canal. You can see the ships as they pass by. It has been three years but we use "Gamboa Tours" booked by a girl named Yari. You must take your kids up the Chagres River by motorized canoe to the Embera Indian villages...Gamboa tours will arrange the trip and provide a guide. It is if you have stepped back in time.

In Panama city you can have lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Miraflores locks as ships pass by. Another good restaurant in the city is Martin Fierro steak house.
The Sheraton that used to be the "Ceaser Park" hotel is very nice. A girl named "Luz" was very helpful to us while there.
