oops!! Need help in lodging on coast fo Costa Rica

Posted a message earlier but forgot to mention the place where we were going for Easter weekend. We have been tossing around Aruba, Hawaii, but finally decided on Costa Rica. First time visit there. Will we need to rent a car and should we take food. Any help will be appreciated. Janice Garrison Oh the dates are 4-20-00-4-25-00 5 nights.

I would definitely recommend the Hotel El Parador in Manuel Antonio. It is a beautiful, well-kept resort with excellent service. If you don't plan to travel outside the area (and there is plenty to do there), you don't need a car. None of the hotels I stayed at in CR had minibars or fridges, so I wouldn't bother with food. You can get whatever you need there and the prices outside the resorts are pleasantly low.

Janice: Costa Rica is great. Whether to rent a car or not totally depends on where in the country you're going. Driving distances are long and the roads are not great in parts of the country. We flew within the country for part of the trip, hired taxi drivers for part of it, and rented a car for another part. See my trip report on this forum for more info. Also, I would not bother bringing food -- we found the grocery stores there just fine for our needs, unless there's something special you just have to have from home (we kind of wished we'd brought one or two bottles of wine -- couldn't find much wine there other than a very limited selection of Chilean labels, but it was fine).

This message is for Clare Flynn. We are going to be staying at the Hotel El Parador for five days during the second week of May. Do you have any suggestions as to what to do, where to eat, etc. in Manuel Antonio or Quepos? This is our first time to Costa Rica.
