Hi.
We are a group of 8, arriving Liberia Airport May 26th, depart Liberia Airport June 2nd. We would like, if possible, to rent a house for the entire week and day trip as needed, Our group has 5 young adults who have requested a beach with some nightlife. We will have a couple of cars.
We've heard Tamarindo would be a good location. We've also heard that MA is more beautiful. Your thoughts please?

tamarindo has good hotels and restaurants -tho expensive by local standards- but as the town is popular with college kids so there is a drug scene in & around the late night bars.
maybe a better option- and closer to liberia airport is Playa Ocotal:

contact Modesta at Villas Casa Blanca, she manages a number of condos etc for rentals:
http://costa.rica.typepad.com/vista_hermosa/home/index.html
the nightlife of playa del coco is only 5 mins drive away and there is good diving, sportfishing and more activities/tours from Ocotal.
My recommendation is a day trip on the don bosco the largest motorsailor in coco www.costaricasailingtours.com
it stops for a bbq on the private beach of playa huevos:

MA is more 'upscale', but not a lot of rental villas, mainly hotels.
try www.vrbo.com
It also depends on what places you want to visit for your daytrips. The pacific side is far away from a lot of the other places, so making a base camp there works best if you stay on that side.

If you opt for Manuel Antonio, it would make more sense to fly into San Jose. I would second the Ocotal suggestion. Or consider Playa Flamingo--lots of very nice condos for rent in that area. Right on the beach.
