All of a sudden, based on what I've read here, mexico seems like a great idea & affordable, so i ask you:
Where's a good place NON-CITY!! for 2 adults, two teens:
Beach
Lodging on beach
Not crowded
Laid back
Great Snorkeling
Afforadble
Easy to reach (i.e., no rental car necessary)
Great weather in April
Thanks!
OK, I'm interested!

Well you might check into Puerto Morales or Playa del Carmen(maybe to city)and points south of Cancun. Beautiful beaches, water and you can find some very nice hotels.
Have any questions feel free to email me.

hi, you might consider akumal _ great place for divers, not too developed, but still has good hotels and restaurants. Playa del carmen is a cool town but getting awfully busy and crowded _ nothing like cancun but still may be more of a ``city'' than you want. Or, you might consider the island of cozumel _ again great diving/snorkeling and easy to get around without a car. in april, the weather should be good in all of these areas _ really, anywhere in the yucatan....
Playa Del Carmen is affordable, not too city but not too small. There are lots to do and great snorkling. Most hotels offer day trips out to different costal towns and ruins. The town would be perfect for 2 teens to keep themselves busy but not in trouble.
All previous are good choices. But have to throw in my pitch for Isla Mujeres--a small island 10 miles off Cancun. Meets all your requirements except the snorkeling is not as good as Cozumel or Akumel. However, both those places are at least twice as expensive. We have a 16 page travel brouchure on I. M. and other locations on Mayan Coast that we can e-mail you if you request. Dan and Ginny
I don't think you can go wrong with either playa del carmen or akumal. Although both areas are really relaxed, Akumal is more relaxed but also farther from the airport (to Playa about 40 minutes, to akumal 60 minutes). You do not have to rent a car as taxi's are very cheap and plentiful. The beaches should be similar, but more snorkeling opps may exist off the beaches nearer to akumal.
Both locales are great! Good Luck!
Akumal should be seriously considered or anywhere on Cozumel (you seriously cannot get anymore laid back than on Coz).
Please look at www.mytravelboard.com/playa for full details about this area.
