Novel for the Plane

I love to get myself in the mood for my trips by reading a novel that is set wherever I am going. With Christmas coming up and people asking for gift ideas, I would love to ask for some good novels based in Buenos Aires for my March trip there. I have hours to kill on the flight since I don't sleep on planes. Any ideas?

Check out Julio Cortazar, although he is most famous for his short stories, I believe.

For some reason, I have been able to sleep on the flights from the US to Argentina..maybe you will get lucky

I highly recommend anything by Tomas Eloy Martinez, but especially "The Tango Singer." It's set in Buenos Aires, and brilliant captures the atmosphere of the city. His other two novels, "Santa Evita" and "The Peron Novel," are both very good fictionalized accounts of the Perons.
