nice hotel in san jose

I manage to take one trip per year. I save up all my money because I like to stay in nicer hotels. I'll be in San Jose for two nights and then will travel for the next week. I've heard the Orquideas is great. Any other very nice hotels relatively close to the airport. I've also heard the Del Ray is seedy. But I like the idea of a casino. Any advice is appreciated.

The Costa Rica Marriot is quite nice. I know, I know a Marriot??? Yes the Marriot. You could not get me to stay at the Marriot on the coast, or for that matter any US chain hotel in Costa Rica but if you want luxury in San Jose the Marriot is the place(not the Courtyard Marriot!). I believe they have a free shuttle to the airport and as is the case for most places, breakfast is included.
The hotel has lovely grounds, pools, tennis courts, driving range and all the services you would expect at a 5 star place in the states as well as an excellent choice of restaurants and room service. I would compare the service to a Four Seasons or a Ritz and found the price(expensive for CR) very reasonable. I think you can get rooms for about $140-$180.
There is no casino and most of the clients seemed to be on business trips

Vista del Valle is close to the airport and a great place to stay. It's not in San Jose and doesn't have a casino. I am not sure how important it is for you to have a casino but you take take a look on line anyway. Have a great trip.

Surely, hammail, you're aware of the special considerations for visiting casinos in CR... If not, please research and investigate. Just a friendly FYI.
