New rocks in the water at Cabanas la Conchita?
Different World's website says that there have been some rocks left in the water at Cabanas la Conchita. I emailed Different World and was told "There are a few rocks here and there in the shallow water near the hotel but this means that you would probably have to tread a little carefully. They should not detract from your enjoyment of the water and should not affect swimming."
Several posts on Trip Advisor mention the new rocks and say that they are pretty bad.
Has anyone been there lately? I would appreciate some information on how the hurricane has changed the swimability of Conchita's beach.
Thank You!

Hi sparklegem,
Funny, I keep running into you. I was just looking at the Cabanas la Conchita website tonight as I consider a trip to Tulum for my first trip to the Mexican beaches. Have you been to Tumlum before?

Wish I could help, but our visit was in August. Must have been Wilma that brought the rocks.
There were rocks in the shallow area directly in front of La Conchita. But if you went in the water in front of the empty lot (between La Conchita and Azulik), there were very few rocks. I wonder if they are talking about this area.

Tulum is wonderful, but know what you are getting into...limited or no electricity, can't flush toilet paper (has to go in the waste-can), a bumpy dirt road.
These are some that many people can't get past. We stay for 10 days and love every minute of it.

Pepper, some questions about Tulum:
Do you take ground transportation from the Cancun Airport? I don't want to mess with renting a car. How careful are you on eating and drinking? What do you do in Tulum for a whole week?

We just sit and relax...Tulum has a way of sucking you onto it's beach and not letting you go. We may get out and do something every couple of days or so. Like go to Akumal and snorkle, drive to ruins, hang out in Playa del Carmen.
We do rent a car from Cancun because we know that we are going to get out and about. It's less than taking taxis. And we like to drive into town (off the beach) for dinner at night.
Pretty much every restaurant is safe to eat and drink at. My husband even eats from the street carts in Tulum w/o any issues. We take our 2 kids w/ us (2yrs and 12yrs) and none of them have ever had a problem. I'm big on hand-washing before a meal down there; even if with just antibacterial wipes.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Yeah..it's down there. It's the 2nd to last property before the Sian Kaan gate. The last one is Rancho San Eric.
Great beach at Tierras del Sol. Would like to hear about the hotel/cabanas. We haven't stopped in there yet. Hope you'll have a rental car.
