We will stay in Playa Hermosa (Guanacaste), my friend is visiting us for a few days. We already made plans to take her to Playa Grande, Tamarindo. What other day trips can you recommend, we will have a car(4WD). Not too much walking, 1-2 km is OK, knee problems.

Check out the Rincon de la Vieja area--Hotel Borinquen perhaps for mud baths--should be relaxing and fun and you can do a LITTLE hiking/walking.

Also, how about Palo Verde as a day trip? Or the Corobici River. . .

Shillmac, as I recall, you can go only in school break, is it correct? It was the same for me, but I retired early specially for this reason. I still work, very flexible job, to be able to afford the trips we take. Twice/year to Europe, but we stay for the summer at home in British Columbia and travel here.

We leave on Jan 22 to CR and back Feb 27.
Decided to stay on Nicoya Peninsula this year, we are beach lovers, but will travel all the way down to Samara, Montezuma.

We've retired as well, but now working on another retirement by teaching in another state. We have 2 homes, but they are only about 1.5 hour apart. Interesting arrangment, but even though our travel time is limited to certain times of the year, the extra $$ helps us be able to travel as well. I guess it is easier to appreciate the time you get when it doesn't come so easily!

You'll be there about 5 weeks? We are doing that this summer. I'll study 3 weeks (have a bilingual job next year) and then my husband will bring our 2 year old granddaughter down for another 2 weeks. No way could I be apart from her for 5 weeks! Her arrival here on earth pretty well took care of any plans we may have had to actually LIVE down there!

We have decided that our best bet when we do full retirement in 3 years is to rent and stay in Costa Rica about 3-4 times a year, maybe 6 weeks each time. And from there, we'd like to travel to other points south.

Have a great time--it will be a nice change from BC this time of year, right? Or have you been unseasonable warm like the northeast? Strange weather these past 2 years. . .

We had the most horrible winter so far.
In November! -15C in our balmy Vancouver, 40 cm snow. Last time this cold was 20 years ago. Two weeks after this devastating storm, in our Stanley Park /what is the biggest urban park in the world/ thousands of very mature, centuries old trees went down. Everywhere in the area, black out for 3 days. We lost a 40 ft tall hemlock tree, luckily only the front yard, the street and my husband car was hit. Last week record rain again, one day 133 mm in our area. Two days later snow again and rain, rain, rain.

Yes, I'm ready for Costa Rica!

I'll bet! You must be getting some of the weather systems that Percy has written about--Percy who is a frequent poster and lives in Alberta. . .it makes those beautiful climates all the sweeter, that's for sure! If I ever get to choose the months I want to spend in CR, January-February will be at the top of my list! I have to be home in March when the trees get dressed up again--that first green really warms my heart!
