moving large dog to CR need help ASAP plz

Hi I have been looking for an affordable way to get my dog to costa rica and the easiest, most simple option is to hire a pet traveler but I can't afford it.

How can I do this on my own? what all do I need to bring my dog to costa rica? what will the cost look like?

So far I understand I need a broker, and vet paperwork but the part that has me lost is all the legal papers for importing a pet

If someone could give me AS DETAILED INFO AS POSSIBLE on what exactly I need to do I would SOOO much appreciate it.

I am leaving in 2 weeks and I'd really like to bring my pup!

Thanks

P.S. (looking to spend less than $2000 flight included)

Check out this link for Casa Bella Rita...a very nice B&B in Santa Ana. The owner, Rita, is instrumental in a dog rescue group in CR called SASY. I'd try to send her an email to see if she might have any info.

Look at the forum on www.arcr.net for answers
I hope you are moving and not just vacationing. Air travel is hard on dogs and shouldn't be taken lightly.

I moved my cat and dog here. I flew continental and had my cat in the cabin with me and my dog had to go down in the cargo hold.

I left in September because it was good weather, so it sounds like are in good shape with that.

Go to your vet and they will fill out the necessary over seas paperwork. You need to take that paperwork to the capital of your state. I believe it was the Agriculture department. They will stamp it and you are set to fly.

The dog will need a crate big enough to turn around in. I took the crate to the airport and went to a special office at Continental that deals with this.

I didn't use any broker, just paid Contintental to have my pets fly. If you like to ask me more questions, I'm more than happy to answer.

Please be familiar with the signs of tick fever for your dog... On the Nicoya coast I have two friends that lost their pets to this. The dog becomes anemic and loses the ability to clot. Please become familiar with this issue. Good luck.. safe travels.
