Hi - I'm planning a 9-day trip to CR, including time in Manuel Antonia and Arenal. With the remaining days should I take a rafting trip down the Paucare River OR spend time in the Monteverde Forest.? We have easy access to white water here, but still the trip sounds very appealing.
Also, know of a rental car agency that allows a drow-off Quepos?
monteverd or pacuare; car rental

Knowing what I know (did both these things in January) I would pick rafting the Pacuare over hiking in Monteverde if I had to choose between these two.
One fun thing I did do in Monteverde is the San Luis waterfall horseback and hike. It was different from the more bland monteverde forest hikes. It requires more stamina though and you shouldn't go if its been wet. I did a little write up on it in my Monteverde highlights trip report dated early last week.
We did Monteverde in 02 and Pacuare this year. It depends on what kind of person you are. I like warmth and adventure more than cool damp weather and birds so I would vote Pacuare downs hands. But I also know bird lovers that wouldn't miss Monteverde. The Monteverde road is (or was in 02) a never ending drive slowly around and through large potholes.
We used Adobe Rental Car and they let us drop our car off at the Rios Tropicales starting point for the Pacuare trip so I assume that you could drop off at Quepos as well.
