MOM + DAUGHTER: in need of trip ideas from Seattle to Mexico!
Hi! I'm hoping the Fodor community can help me out. Here's the deal:
My mom (62) and I (27) are looking to travel to Mexico in mid-July for a week.
My mom has given me the pleasure of planning the trip!
We have been to Cozumel (Fiesta Americana Dive Resort) and absolutely loved it.
We are looking for something similar.
Can you recommend a city and hotel to check out? We will be flying from Seattle.
WE PREFER:
A nice, clean hotel.
Average price per night.
Nice beach at hotel or within walking distance.
Local shopping within walking distance or a short cab ride.
A not so long flight from Seattle if possible...
WE WANT TO:
Relax. Lay around read books.
Go for the occasional swim in the pool or ocean.
Quiet is preferred over city noise and such.
Feel safe.
Shop and eat!
Do you have any suggestions for us? Thank you in advance!!

Akumal (just got back) or Puerto Vallarta (shorter flight from SEA, going back again in september from LAX)
Do you want AI or non-AI? Open to condo? (you do not have to cook just because you stay in a condo)

If you are a costco member, it has some excellent pricing to resorts in Mexico--I particularly noticed great pricing for the Marriott Casa Magna in Cancun, which is a very nice resort on an excellent beach (until the next hurricane, at least!)

I just got back from Puerto Vallarta (I live in Seattle), my 20th trip, which tells you how much I like it there. Depending the time of year you can get nonstop flights (high season) or an easy transfer thru Phoenix on US Air is how I've gone the past 4 times. It's 2-1/2 to 3/4 hours each flight so 5-6 hours total flying time, 2 hour time change. Easy.
PV is a city so maybe not as "quiet" as you are seeking, but you could stay to the edge of town or outside a ways and still have the ammenities of restaurants, shopping, etc. you mention a short taxi ride away. PV is know for being friendly, welcoming, safe.
